ARMA (stylized as ARMA) is a series of first-person tactical military shooter games initially developed for Microsoft Windows. Known for its emphasis on realism and simulation, the series combines large-scale military conflicts spanning extensive terrains with more close-quarters combat scenarios. The franchise’s first installment was released in 2006, with the most recent title arriving in 2013. Over time, subsequent titles have been made available across multiple platforms, including Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS.
The inaugural game, *ARMA: Armed Assault* (known as *ARMA: Combat Operations* in the United States), launched for Windows in November 2006 in the Czech Republic and Germany, February 2007 across Europe, and May 2007 in the United States. It utilized the Real Virtuality 2 engine. The latest iteration, *ARMA 3*, is a standalone title released for Windows on September 12, 2013, powered by the Real Virtuality 4 engine. Prior to its official launch, it was accessible via Steam’s Early Access program starting March 5, 2013. Between late 2015 and early 2016, *ARMA 3* also saw releases for Linux and Mac, with plans to synchronise these versions more closely with the Windows edition.
